Mohammed leads T&T U23 against South Africa


Discarded T&T senior national middle-order batsman Jason Mohammed has been appointed captain of this country’s under-23 team, for the up-coming visit by the East Rhand Cricket Academy of South Africa. The young South Africans are due to arrive in Trinidad on Thursday and will play against the University of the West Indies in a 50-over contest at the Sir Frank Worrell Grounds on Saturday. East Rhand will play two two-day matches and a series of One-Dayers against the T&T Under-23 team.

Also included in the T&T Under-23 team are senior national players — opening batsman William Perkins and left-arm spinner Rishi Bachan. Mohammed, Perkins and Bachan also have represented the West Indies U-19 team. Promising 17-year-old allrounder Yannic Cariah made his debut for the North team in the just concluded Pizza Hut/QPCC Gerry Gomez Memorial Cricket Cup Classic against South at the Queen’s Park Oval is also named in the 14-member squad.
