19 cricketers for T&TCB academy
T&T’s allrounder Yannic Cariah, who emerged as one of the leading players in this year’s TCL Group West Indies U-19 Challenge in Jamaica, is one of 19 cricketers selected for the T&T Cricket Board 2009 Cricket Academy. The official launch of the 2nd edition of the U-23 Academy took place yesterday at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva. Also selected are pint-sized leg-spinner Kissoondath Magram, captain Yannick Ottley and opening batsman, Nicholas Alexis. Cariah and Ottley were named among 20 players to prepare for the ICC Youth World Cup in New Zealand in January/February 2010. Also named to participate in the programme is former T&T and West Indies U-15 captain, Stephen Katwaroo. According to Programme Director and Executive member of the local board, William Wallace, the programme will start this weekend and will continue over a 10-week-period on the weekends. He said at the end of the programme a team will be selected to tour South Africa in December.
