Umpires praise T&TCB
Approximately 100 people have been recruited to undergo a six-day training programme geared towards becoming qualified umpires. This was revealed at a briefing session held at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva, yesterday. This is an initiative of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB), in conjunction with the T&T Cricket Umpires and Scorers Council, in an effort to provide more umpires to service local cricket competitions. Addressing the well-attended gathering, former West Indies cricketer and president of the TTCB Deryck Murray stated that he was extremely happy to see so many people showing a keen interest to making a contribution towards the development of the game via umpiring.
Forbes Persaud, chief executive officer, and general secretary of the TTCB, also commended the participants for coming forward to volunteer to be of service to the game and promised that the TTCB would continue to give support to the umpiring fraternity as it had done in the past. President of the TTCUSC Lalman Kowlessar was high in praise for the TTCB for coming forward once again to assist the umpiring body in their quest to take umpiring to another level. The programme will be conducted on the following days—Saturday 12, Sunday 13, Saturday 19, Saturday 26, Sunday 27, September, culminating on Saturday October 3, from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm on each day.
